Donnington Park Track day. - Tuesday, October 02, 2007

Well another track day and another big off.

Alls well though, basically I low sided into Redgate on about the 7th session.

Bike was running like a dream, I'd had the No-limits endorsed suspension guy sort out my suspension, due to the bike scarying the cack out of me every time I had to brake hard especially into Fogarty Esses and Melbourne Hairpin and to a lesser degree Redgate.

Anyway he sorted it out so well I could brake hard and not go into a scary back end weave, the problem seems to be that it gave me too "much" confidence and I was increasingly leaning the bike over more and more, getting my knee down all over the place but also through Redgate I was getting the right hand food peg down.  This was my eventual downfall as the crash was caused either by the footpeg grounding out and thus lifting the front wheel causing the wash out (most likely) or less likely my rear (newish) Dunlop RR tyre ran out of tread (leant over to far) causing the low side. (possible but I seem to remember some grinding prior to the crash).

Anyway I slid for a while on my stomach feet first and eventually stopped in the gravel.  The bike spun a bit but stayed on its right side and didnt flip or anything expensive like  that.

Damage....

to me:-
Left knee and left elbow grazed and bruised.

to clothing:-

Leather ripped and worn through in a few places.

Gloves as above

Boots as above

Lid- No damage

To Bike:-

Right hand fairing scratched but not bust this time.

Rear brake leaver snapped off ....but I have a spare rearset from the last off somewhere.!!

Carbon Silencer - FUBAR

Right hand R&G frame protector - FUBAR.

Front Brake leaver - 1/4 missing.

So all in all  GREAT day, fantastic company (met up with some friends and new friends from SP Motorcycles in Exeter), Really happy with the bikes handling now (honest I really am).

Pics to follow later in the week.

But I will now take the winter off to rebuild the bike (not that needs cost much), might add some trick bits......I will be wathcing EBAY with interest!!!!

Track Day - Mallory Park 23rd August 2007 - Thursday, August 23, 2007

Well visited Mallory again with No Limits - 3rd time of visiting Mallory.  And it was a scorcher.

This time I ventured into the Inters group and I would guess was in the top 1/3rd in terms of speed.

The bike was fresh from its service at SP Motorcycles in Exeter, with new rear tyre, Orange powder coated wheels and Current Gear display.

My next Track Day will be 2nd October @ Donnington and I will be in the novice group.

I may well see a few more events yet this year, but the Donnington one is the only one all booked up.

Mallory 5th July 2007 - 07 July 2007 - Thursday, July 05, 2007

Returned to Mallory.

This time I trailered my bike, the journey was crap due to a major accident on the m1 causing all roads to be congested, arrived 1 hour late for checkin but in time for first session.

Completed 7 sessions in total, morning sessions I was rubbish due to accident last time, just could not get my head around the entry into Gerrards.

Anyway the afternoon sessions I was blitzing again and loved it, even the last session for me when it poored down with rain...in fact I was one of a very few that ventured out in the rain but it went well.

Plan to return again soon.

Pics to follow soon, with a few choice shots in here but the bulk being in the Gallery section.

Single bike Trailer - 07 April 2007 - Wednesday, July 04, 2007
Picked up my trailer today, bought from these people on Ebay, very friendly and a really nice trailer with lights all built in etc  Even got a free ramp and 4 harnesses.

You can see pretty clearly the damage from the off @ Mallery in the following picture.  Note the missing rearset.

Well have returned minus bike - 30 March 2007 - Friday, March 30, 2007
What a day, absolutely brilliant, was really flying 4 sessions behind me, overtaking quite happily.

And then on the first session of the afternoon DISASTER! flew into Gerrards to fast, did the cardinal sin of breaking in panic and went straight on into the kitty litter....on hitting the gravel the fall was pretty much instantanious and as I went down I thought oh FUBAR this is going to really hurt.  And it did hurt.

Going to be pretty bruised on left calf and rib cage tomorrow but at the time I was pretty winded.  Tried to sit up but just thought sod that and curled up into a ball until the medics arrived...which they did pretty damn quick.

Off in the ontrack Ambulance to the medical centre for a check up.  All was well so a walk back to see the damage.

The bike faired pretty well, apart from ripping the gear leaver rear set off, which prevented me riding the bike home.

Luckily some other riders put it in their van and took it to my place of work.  The fairing is well scratched so I wont bother with a pattern fairing now, just keep using this one.

And will I return....your damn right I will.

Loved it.

Here is a few pics of me before the off!!! Damaged pic to follow in the week.

Preparing for first Track Day. - Monday, March 26, 2007
Started preparing and protecting my pride and joy ready for this years track day fun.  Being my first track day, I need to make sure I protect the plastic from a tumble as much as possible.

Once I know that track days are for me, well then I will buy some race pattern plastic.

First off I already have some R&G fork protectors (came with the bike) but today (Sunday 25th March) I fitted a set of White R&G Engine Mount fairing protectors.  They come highly rated and most racers etc seem to stick to them.  Mine cost £54 from Hein Gericke and rather good they look too.

Before:-

Damage already on fairing from previous owner

After:-

These were dead simple to fit and would have been even easier if I had, had the correct tools.

New tool kit now ordered and Torque Wrench being sourced.

More to follow, please keep checking back!!!!
